The Review Breakdown
Story/Screenplay – There’s nothing much that can be spoken of the story because there’s isn’t any. A depressed man hallucinating about his late wife often leading to suicidal thoughts, an unknown passenger of his cab business & the love interest of the passenger are going on a road journey to the Kailash where they develop a bond & the grieving man soon makes his mission to support the passenger against the villains from a cult organization. The story seems directly to be lifted from any one of the fiction short stories from the 90’s era.
As bad as the story of the film is, it’s the screenplay that acts as another nail to the coffin of this film. It is very hard to digest the fact that a film written by Mahesh Bhatt can be so amateurish because the film never feels that it’s a growth to the franchise, on the other hand, the film uses frames from the old film to parallelize the story & reminisce the audience of the older film. Another major drawback is that the screenplay easily lets the audience guess the future events that turn out to be correct. All the elements trying to make this flick a thriller has been exposed in the first half itself leaving the viewers with no thrill.
Direction – After watching the film it can surely be said that Mahesh Bhatt is still living in the 90’s. Using flashbacks to link the context of the story, bizarre writing, serious dialogues that becomes unintentionally funny, poor characterization & many more elements prove that the director hasn’t got over from his 90’s hangover.
Acting – Sanjay Dutt trying to save the grace as a mentally disturbed person, Alia Bhatt showcasing her talent only to fail miserably & Aditya Roy Kapur playing the same kind character borrowed from his previous movies are the points to be mentioned when it comes to their performances. Versatile actor Makrand Deshpande has played his well if only his character was well written similarly the other actors put their sincere efforts but gets overshadowed by the film’s terrible story & screenplay.
Music – Keeping the vishesh films tradition going the film’s music is only the worth-watchable factor for the film. It truly moves the story forward with lots of emotions being showcased by the lead characters.
Highlight
Performances of the lead actors to some extent and good music are the only things that are worth discussing the movie, otherwise, it’s a complete waste of time.
Overall
Not a movie to watch if someone expects the kind of magic Mahesh Bhatt created with his masterpieces like Arth, Daddy & Zakhm.
